Musaamo rules

By enrolling, the student accepts the following terms and conditions.

Enrolment and continuation of studies

  • Enrolment of new students becomes binding once a lesson time has been agreed and confirmed by Musaamo’s office.
  • A student’s enrolment continues automatically into the following semester (excluding multi-lesson card students and summer lessons).
  • If studies are discontinued after enrolment has been confirmed, the full fee for the upcoming semester will be charged.
  • Musaamo reserves the right to cancel a course if the minimum number of participants is not reached.

Cancelling a student’s place

A student’s enrolment remains valid until the place is cancelled.

Notice of discontinuation must be submitted in writing to info@musaamo.fi by the following deadlines:

  • A place for the upcoming autumn semester can be cancelled by 31 May.
  • A place for the upcoming spring semester can be cancelled by 30 November.
  • If a student does not cancel their place, or agree to changes to their lesson package, by the deadline, studies will continue in the following semester with the same lesson package.
  • If studies are discontinued after the above deadlines, before the start of the semester, or during the semester, the full fee for that semester will be charged.

Payments

  • Annual fees are invoiced by email via the Hobiver system. Any changes to contact details must be reported to Musaamo’s office without delay.
  • If studies begin partway through a semester, only the remaining lessons will be invoiced.
  • If payment is delayed by more than four weeks, lessons will be suspended until payment has been made. No compensation will be given for this suspension. If payment remains delayed beyond this, Musaamo may also terminate the student’s place mid-semester.
  • We check new customers for payment default records.

Absences

  • Students may not attend lessons while ill. Teachers are required to send a student home if, in the teacher’s assessment, they are not in a condition to participate in the lesson.
  • If a student is more than 15 minutes late for their lesson, the lesson is considered cancelled.

Absences caused by the student are not made up at another time (except for illness lasting more than 2 weeks with a medical certificate, which must be agreed separately with Musaamo’s office).

Teachers have fixed teaching hours and tight schedules, which makes it impossible to offer lessons back at another time. This also applies to individually arranged lessons once a time has been confirmed with the teacher. The same practice is standard across music schools generally.

If the teacher is absent, the teacher will make up the lesson at a separately announced time, or a substitute teacher will hold the lesson. Make-up lessons may also be arranged on weekends or at the end of the semester, for example.

Options available in case of student absence (individual lessons)
Musaamo is committed to offering as much value for the semester fee as possible, and for this reason we have developed our lesson make-up policy to be as flexible as we can, while ensuring it does not create extra work for the teacher.

  1. If a student cannot attend in person, they are entitled to a remote lesson during their own lesson time. A request for a remote lesson should ideally be made to the teacher the day before, but at the latest by 12:00 noon on the day of the lesson.
  2. A substitute (such as a friend or family member) may be sent to attend the lesson instead. The teacher must be informed in advance about who will be attending.
  3. The lesson may also be held as video-based instruction, where the student sends the teacher videos of the pieces they are working on before their lesson time, for example via WhatsApp. The teacher reviews the videos and sends feedback along with guidance for further practice during the student’s reserved lesson time.

The teacher also has the right to hold lessons remotely if they are not fit to teach in person. The teacher will inform students of a remote lesson at the latest by 12:00 noon on the day of the lesson. If the teacher’s absence continues for longer, a substitute teacher will be arranged so that lessons can be held in person.

Events and performances

  • Some of the semester’s lessons may be held as joint lessons or events, giving students studying individually or in smaller groups valuable experience of playing together with others.
  • Some of the semester’s lessons may be replaced by performances.

Other rules

  • Students are not separately insured by Musaamo.
  • Recordings and publications are made of Musaamo’s activities and concerts for Musaamo’s own and marketing use: all of Musaamo’s media content is always produced with respect for the students. We only publish material that presents students in a positive light. We never publish a student’s full name, nor do we tag them in publications.
  • Musaamo’s premises are under recorded camera surveillance.
  • Lessons missed due to force majeure are not made up or refunded from the semester fee. Force majeure refers to causes beyond the service provider’s control that could not have been foreseen when the agreement was made, and due to which the teaching cannot be arranged. Such causes include at least actions by authorities, natural disasters, a generally dangerous infectious disease epidemic and related precautionary measures, a state of war, civil unrest, a serious accident, a strike, a lockout by an employer organisation, or another similarly significant and unusual cause.

Updates to the terms

  • By enrolling, the student accepts the terms and conditions in force at the time.
  • Musaamo reserves the right to update these terms. Any changes will be announced on the website, and the date of update will be noted alongside the terms.
  • Updated terms take effect from the start of the following semester.
  • As a student’s enrolment continues automatically from one semester to the next, we recommend checking the terms and conditions regularly.
